Henry English established the Black United Fund of Illinois (BUFI) in 1985 to empower communities to help themselves.  Through his leadership, BUFI demonstrated a strong commitment to underserved communities by providing funding and services to those interested in community improvement and development.  Continuing the legacy, the Henry L. English Empowerment Expo is designed to provide individuals with information, education and inspiration to advance their lives.

The expo will consist of panels, entertainment and resources designed for marginalized and/or disadvantaged individuals.  Panels will address: employment opportunities and challenges; healthcare and mental health; civil rights and responsibilities; and educational opportunities.  Resources will include: employment opportunities; health and mental health; financial literacy; housing/tenants’ rights; and educational opportunities.
